Cologne, Germany – Remember that awesome zombie-slaying, inventory-juggling roguelite I stumbled upon at Gamescom 2024? Well, get ready to hit the road again because Pixelsplit just launched the second public playtest for Deadly Days: Roadtrip, and it’s jam-packed with new features, improvements, and enough zombie guts to paint the highway red.
For those who missed the memo, Deadly Days: Roadtrip throws you into the driver’s seat of a zombie apocalypse road trip. Imagine a chaotic blend of reverse bullet hell and Tetris, where you’re dodging hordes of undead while frantically managing an inventory bursting with bizarre weapons and items.
Having chatted with the devs at Gamescom (super passionate bunch!), it’s clear they’ve been busy. This playtest boasts a ton of additions, including:
- Road Trip Planner: A new mission selection map lets you chart your course, with some fresh locations to explore.
- Inflatable Arsenal: Craft bonkers weapons like an inflated katana sword using the new Balloon Pump item.
- Character Crew: Unlock three playable characters – the Survivor, Bananaperson, and the Sheriff – each with unique starting items.
- Meta Base HQ: A sneak peek at the upcoming Meta Base, your persistent hub for upgrading and customizing your runs.
- Explosive Mayhem: Unleash carnage with explosive barrels (just try not to blow yourself up).
- Audio Overhaul: A brand-new soundtrack to amp up the zombie-slaying action.
But that’s not all! Pixelsplit has also been hard at work refining the core experience:
- Inventory Overhaul: Improved item upgrades, auto-equipping, and smoother drag-and-drop functionality.
- Zombie Makeover: Reworked zombie sprites with groovy new wobble animations.
- Performance Boost: Optimizations for a smoother ride.
- Gameplay Tweaks: Balance adjustments, buffed health kits, and improved dash controls.
- Bug Fixes: Squashed those pesky crashes and glitches.
From my hands-on time at Gamescom, Deadly Days: Roadtrip already felt like a unique and addictive experience. This latest playtest shows Pixelsplit’s commitment to refining the gameplay and adding even more depth. If you’re a fan of roguelites, action-packed combat, or just enjoy the therapeutic act of mowing down hordes of the undead, be sure to check out the Deadly Days: Roadtrip playtest.
Don’t forget: Pixelsplit is also running monthly giveaways for full game keys, so jump into the playtest, provide feedback, and you might just win a ticket to the craziest road trip ever.
