Streets of Rogue 2 Breaks Out of Early Access Jail, Demo Available Now!

But the full release is gonna take a little longer…

We heard a lot about Streets of Rogue 2 at Gamescom this year and chatted with the tinyBuild team about their upcoming open-world sandbox RPG. Now, developer Matt Dabrowski and tinyBuild have dropped a surprise “Island Alpha” demo on Steam, giving everyone a taste of the mayhem. This comes with news that the Early Access launch has been pushed back to give the team more time to polish the experience.

Island Life Ain’t So Bad:

The demo throws players onto a tropical island ruled by a, shall we say, eccentric mayor. You can choose to fight against the corrupt regime, join forces with the mayor, or just ignore the whole political drama and cause chaos for the sake of chaos. Sounds pretty “Streets of Rogue” to us!

More Than Just a Pretty Island:

The demo showcases the game’s signature procedural generation, ensuring each playthrough feels unique. You’ll get to experiment with different character classes, each with its own wacky abilities, and wreak havoc with an arsenal of weapons and gadgets. While local co-op and controller support aren’t in the demo just yet, Matt Dabrowski promises to add them soon.

Why the Delay?

In a statement on the Steam page, Dabrowski explains that the extra development time will allow the team to focus on refining core gameplay loops, progression systems, and squashing those pesky bugs. Considering the original Streets of Rogue boasts a “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam, we’re inclined to trust their judgment.

Early Access… Eventually:

While no new Early Access release date has been announced, you can dive into the “Island Alpha” demo right now on Steam. In the meantime, keep an eye on the Streets of Rogue 2 official website, follow @StreetsofRogue and @tinyBuild on Twitter, and join the official Discord for updates.
