Armello – Review

In a kingdom ruled by a lion corrupted by dark magic.
only four heroes can achieve victory and save the land, but only one can sit on the throne. No, it’s not another Narnia story, it’s Armello!

Armello is a swashbuckling adventure that combines RPG elements with the strategic play of card and board games, creating a personal, story-fuelled experience.

The game really feels like playing a board game but in a video game. It gives us a whole different look with each character, We play as a ‘Hero’ from one of the four animal clans: Rat, Rabbit, Bear or Wolf. Each clan has it’s own pros and cons, you need to choose the right clan for your own play style.

League of Geeks which are the developers of Armello have quite a strong history in game development, while Armello is the studio’s first game, the team members’ individual resumes cite famous AAA franchises including Pokémon, Grand Theft Auto, Fallout, Dragon Age and Warhammer.

The graphics are beautiful, I was surprised actually when I played the game for the first time. It felt smooth and the characters motions felt natural and I enjoyed almost every frame, just roaming on the map and seeing the little backstage movement, the atmosphere is really relaxed even when you are about to battle someone.

You can navigate your characters around the map as long as you want, but be careful, you need to get to the throne quickly before one of the heroes gets there before you!

The battle system is quite simple but, and it’s a big but, you need to know your character well and be smarter then the other heroes, and when I say smart I mean, if you got hurt and you are going to die, try hiding in the forest or go to higher ground that will give you +2 defense if someone attacks you.

As I said, it is simple, your character has its own perks and you get cards which are used to upgrade your defense, attack or moonlight\daylight perk.
Like when you use a magic card, you can apply a sword for attack or a shield for protection. It all comes down to dice rolling. If you are lucky, you can overthrow your enemy with a single blow and without getting hurt!

In my opinion, Armello gives a different type of video\board game, involving cards and other mechanics, the game gives us a different experience in this new category, I loved it, it has been a great adventure, and of course, claim the throne or Armello!
